(I won&#39;t mention my son&#39;s name because he&#39;d be embarrassed that I was talking about this). One of the reasons I enrolled my son in the academy was to help him develop his confidence, because according to him, it is constantly being shot down at school and even among his &#39;friends&#39;. At school, he is teased and laughed at a lot by girls and boys because he has anxiety, which causes him to ask a lot of questions in class. Sometimes kids push him or try to trip him in the halls, maybe because he&#39;s not &#39;tough&#39; or &#39;cool&#39;. Even his friend from the neighborhood makes fun of him and gets kids at school to make fun of him! I know some of this is just boy stuff, nothing big. But the relentless eye-rolling and name calling and constantly being on the defensive has caused him to say he hates life, and more than once has said he wants to either run away or kill himself. I know that kids, especially tweens and teens, are cruel because they are trying to make sense of their own identity and when they put down others somehow it makes them feel better in their own eyes. We are not going to change society or kids overnight, but if we can give our kids faith in a God who loves all unconditionally, self-confidence, and a sense of humor, which I have tried to do, I know that will help. I need a little assistance in the self-confidence area...I think being in Pendergrass Academy is helping. I hope the workshops will give kids some good tips, too!
